Blake has established himself as one of the most well-respected municipal law attorneys in the State of Texas. He began his legal career representing cities, municipal officers and employees in litigation throughout the state by and through the Texas Municipal League. These cases included claims involving excessive force/wrongful arrest, land use claims, employment discrimination, takings claims and many other municipal issues. Blake has successfully defended and tried these cases in both state and federal court, as well as representing his municipal clients in appeals to the Texas State Courts of Appeals and the Federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.
As his municipal litigation practice continued to expand, Blake began acting as general counsel/city attorney for municipalities throughout East Texas. Representing cities and acting as a municipality’s city attorney has become Blake’s passion. Nineteen cities in East Texas call Blake their city attorney.
Issues ranging from open government, zoning, land use, personnel, economic development, purchasing/bidding, contract review and construction, and general liability are common and almost daily matters requiring Blake’s guidance and expertise.
Blake also represents and defends school districts, administrators and district employees in a broad range of matters. He currently serves as general counsel to Athens Independent School District and LaPoynor Independent School District.
In addition to his governmental entity practice, Blake has tried countless cases to verdict in state and federal courts throughout Texas involving a wide range of issues.
Blake is also a trained Mediator and assists parties in resolving litigation and contested matters.
